New2026/10/21Privacy Mysteries at anoni.net/mysteryA privacy mystery game from anoni.net. Each case is a request to find the leaks in photos, emails and files; why we made it and how we hope it is used.
New2026/10/11First quarterly report and new monitoring pagesTaiwan's Tor relays fell from 13 to 11 in Q3 2026, 8 of them on HiNet, and mobile networks got 4% of OONI measurements. Monitoring now covers more of Asia.
Update2026/10/09New locations for the community pagesAbout, Join, Projects, Services, Events and Updates moved to the anoni.net top level. Old addresses redirect automatically, on the onion service too.
New2026/10/07anoni.net/news and Same Day, Years Apartanoni.net/news is a daily news site from anoni.net on privacy, anonymity networks and censorship, read from a technology and open-source angle with comparisons across Asia, published in three languages and followed up over time. Why we started it, how stories are chosen and checked, the categories, Same Day, Years Apart, and how to subscribe.
New2026/09/02How 292 Asian loanwords ended up in an English passphrase wordlistThe community built asian-diceware, a 7,776-word English passphrase wordlist that drops in for the EFF Large Wordlist and pins 292 dictionary-attested Asian loanwords. This post is about how the words were picked. The breakdown by source language is not what the people who built it expected: 102 from Japanese and 91 from South Asian languages, against 16 from Mandarin and exactly one from Hokkien. It also covers the two hard limits on word choice, why the share stops at 292 instead of rounding up to a tidy percentage, and how the build pipeline refuses to silently drop a pinned word. Code is MIT, the wordlist is CC-BY-4.0, and there is an A5 booklet PDF we also hand out at events.
Event2026/08/28We print this zine only for events and hand it out at Global GatheringA print-only zine, 150 copies, handed out at Global Gathering 2026 in Estoril. This is the design record behind it: the first cover that took the wrong angle, the run where Taiwan vanished from the map, and the constraints a copy shop imposed on the whole visual direction.
Event2026/08/20The Anonymity Networks Community Is Going to Global Gathering 2026Global Gathering 2026 runs from 4 to 6 September in Estoril, Portugal, hosted by Team CommUNITY. We have a booth on 6 September, 13:00 to 15:00 WEST, at Booth 6, titled anoni.net Hub: Sinophone Asia-Pacific Networked Freedom. This is our first Global Gathering. We want to meet technologists building anonymity networks and circumvention tools, and others working across Asia. The booth takes anonymous payment as its topic, a subject no session on the agenda covers, and collects real situations from the people who have run into it. Cofacts, another team from Taiwan, has Booth 10 in the same slot. This post covers the sessions on the agenda that overlap with our work, the booths we plan to visit and what we want to ask each of them, how to find us before our own slot, and how to take part without travelling. We also bring the observation record from 30 minutes of mobile throttling in northern Taiwan on 13 August, as a case others can compare against.
Event2026/08/19Two online sessions on digital security with Tian Jian, and the 26 August one is still openTian Jian's two-session series on digital security and privacy for journalists. We covered a journalist's digital security baseline on August 12, and Mashbean takes on platform intermediaries on August 26. Free, online, and still open for registration.
Event2026/08/11Call for OONI Measurements During Northern Taiwan's Mobile Throttle Drill on 13 AugustThe call for measurements published ahead of the 30-minute mobile throttle in northern Taiwan on 13 August, covering the steps for the day, the privacy implications of the performance tests, OONI's coverage of Taiwan after the central drill, and what to watch for during the throttle.
New2026/07/28The Docs Site's Interactive Section and the Licences Behind the Tor Relay GlobeThe three Tor pieces in the docs site's Interactive section, and the twenty-odd public datasets checked while building the relay globe, sorted by which licences allow redistribution and which stopped us at the terms.

2026/05/28After Iran's 80-day blackout, traffic surged through our community's Tor WebTunnel bridgeAfter Iran's 80-plus-day blackout ended, traffic surged through the Tor WebTunnel bridge our community operates. WebTunnel disguises Tor traffic as ordinary HTTPS, making it the hardest bridge to block in heavily censored places. Anywhere with a free, well-connected link is a good place to host one.
New2026/05/25CryptPad 2026.5.0: zh_Hant Lands as a Built-in Locale After Two and a Half Years UpstreamTwo and a half years of upstream community work landed in CryptPad 2026.5.0 (2026/05/13): zh_Hant (Traditional Chinese) is now a built-in locale, zh_Hans was upgraded alongside it, and a new locale alias system migrates older zh_CN / zh_TW settings without surprise. The community-hosted cryptpad.anoni.net is upgraded; readers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and across the diaspora can now use one of the few end-to-end encrypted collaboration suites entirely in their own script.
New2026/05/23The Traditional Chinese Translation of InterSecLab's MADLink ReportInterSecLab's MADLink report found that 1,708 CSA-7400 appliances shipped by ADLINK in 2019 and 2020 formed the hardware base of Geedge's first-generation firewall platform. The community's Traditional Chinese translation is on the docs site, with a separate record of how Taiwan responded.
